2011 CO2 REPORT
This report is the 2011 issue of JATO’s annual study of the new car market in Europe, putting a particular focus on the official CO2 emissions of the cars sold and registered. The automotive industry has come under intense environmental scrutiny in recent years, with immense pressure applied by the media, legislators, customers and stakeholders.
The European Commission has been influencial in drawing
attention to, and setting targets for the reduction of CO2 emissions from new vehicles across the continent. European Legislation has set targets which the major motor manufacturers must meet, phasing these targets in during the years 2012 to 2015.
In 2011 our analysis shows that the manufacturers continue to make good progress with the reduction in emissions of their products, driving average emissions for the year across Europe down to 136.1g/km. There are currently eight manufacturer brands already achieving the 130g/km European target set for 2015.
