D-Segment: Germans dominate. XE, Superb & Talisman advance

Frankfurt 2015

The European midsize cars segment is being busy. The last 12 months have seen the renewal of its main players and the arrival of new ones with the effect on the registrations: +7% in H1 to 707,500 units. The growth was lower than total market’s average but still is good considering the shift on consumers’ taste, and the drop of many mainstream brands from this segment. Volkswagen leads the segment thanks to the Passat, but it was also the model with the third highest fall in terms of segment share due to the arrival of better competitors like the Renault Talisman and Skoda Superb. The new Superb has proven to be a success with its “high quality-mainstream” formula, while the Renault is doing definitely much better than its predecessor the Renault Laguna.
