New Delhi, March 2026 – India’s two-wheeler market continued its strong recovery in February 2026, with registrations growing 31.35% year on year, rising from 1.36 million units in February 2025 to 1.79 million units this year.
“The sharp increase reflects improving consumer sentiment, stronger rural demand and the positive impact of refreshed model portfolios across major manufacturers. The segment remains a key driver of overall automotive growth, supported by rising commuter demand and expanding access to financing,” said Ravi Bhatia, President of JATO Dynamics India.
On a month-on-month basis, the market saw a modest correction in February, with registrations declining 3.81% from 1.86 million units in January. Bhatia continued: “This easing largely reflects normal seasonal patterns following a strong start to the year and does not indicate any underlying weakness in demand. Retail activity remains steady, supported by continued interest in commuter motorcycles, scooters and electric two-wheelers.”
Hero led the market with 481,271 registrations, up 24.32% year-on-year. Honda followed with 452,797 units - an increase of 37.24% on registrations in February 2025, and a market share increase of 1.0%.
TVS, Bajaj and Suzuki closed out the top five, registering 355,419, 189,882, and 99,007 registrations respectively. Strong results were also recorded by Classic Legends (+96.38%) and Ather (+80.12%). Of the top 10 most-registered makes, only Hero, Bajaj, and Suzuki lost market share year-on-year recording declines of -1.65%, -076% and -0.16% respectively.
Hero’s Splendor Plus was the most-registered model in February with 298,034 units. Honda’s Activia followed in second place with 239,866 units – a significant margin ahead of the TVS Jupiter with 143,651 registrations.
Looking at the registrations by vehicle type, petrol-powered motorcycles remain the dominant choice among buyers accounting for 59.3% of the market, while Scooters follow with 33.1%. Bhatia added: “Motorcycles still account nearly 60% of sales, but electric scooters are slowly gaining traction, accounting for more than 5% of registrations.”
