Levante: Maserati joins the SUV party

Maserati LevanteMaserati is the latest luxury car maker to join the booming segment of SUVs. The new Levante will become a direct rival to the Porsche Cayenne, BMW X6 and Mercedes GLE Coupe and will help Maserati to keep the growth posted by the Ghibli and Quattroporte sedans in 2014. The SUV rising demand is not only a matter of small and compact SUV but it also involves the large and luxury ones. The new Maserati Levante will join a segment that grew by 29% in 2015 to almost 210,000 units. The premium large SUV represented 86% of total E-SUV segment and was led by the BMW X5 and the Land Rover Range Rover Sport. However the big sales rises were posted by the new Audi Q7 (+98%), the Volvo XC90 (+199%), the Porsche Cayenne (+45%) and the BMW X6 (+175%). The new Mercedes GLE Coupe made its debut with 4,100 units (2% of the premium E-SUV sales). Germany’s demand counted for almost 30% of the total with sales up by 30%. Last year 26 of the 29 markets analysed by JATO posted a double-digit growth for this kind of SUV.
